Spent spinners are a good addition to any box that will work both in lakes and slow-flowing rivers: it gives a great profile! I tend to experiment some with a pattern when I sit down to tie up some for fishing, so this time I tied up some in different colors, with/without the foam head and with/without the tinsel wrap around the body.

The split tail is starting to align up, this takes some time the first times you tie them up!

White wings with pale-yellow body should be a good visual indicator in a river

The wrapping of the body doesn’t align up perfectly, but this is not something I tend to stress a lot with when tying up for fishing purposes.

Snowshoe Rabbit feet is not something I have worked a lot with, but here I am experimenting with a small caddis-like fly with different tag colors to see how they will behave and attract trout. The hair from the rabbit feet will be great for a vibrant wing, looking forward to taking this to the river tomorrow.

Yesterday I was out fishing for trout in a stream here in Oslo and this pattern got me some small trout, with a sage TXL-F #1 and 6x tippet it was a good saturday to go trout hunting! The mustad hook is really strong and solid for its sice (#18) and this pattern will occupy a row when I go for autumn fishing in september.

I don’t go for perfection in every fly I tie for fishing: if you look closely this one could have done with a better quill body, but when tying up a large batch I don’t really worry too much about small imperfections like this.

More and more streams have some sort of restriction when it comes to fishing: max size, bag limit and of course: barbless. I’m tying up a row of barbless nymphs for the autumn trout fishing this year to get some experience with them. The color variations here with green/green and white/green really comes out good when they are wet

I was at a river this summer with a good mayfly hatch that left me speechless, I didn’t have much material with me, and I was fishing a stream with quite a bit of water flowing so I went for what is important: the profile. The tail and wings gives a powerful profile that the trout will hit. This fly landed me a couple of trouts and some serious takes from a couple more that trashed the water nicely! Heading back this autumn to do some more fishing in the same river and will pack a row of these.

The lighter is there for melting the tip of the polychenille (I rub it slightly between the fingers after applying some heat to give it a profile.
