Caddis variations in #14

dryfly.me.2013.11.05.caddis_black_greenHook: TMC 2457 #14
Thread: UNI 6/0 Black
Body: UNI 6/0 Black thread, UNI-Mylar Peacock
Wing: Hareline Premo Deer Hair, Whiting Bronce Hackle

More variations over this emerger pattern that I have covered a couple of times before. The material in this one will keep it floating forever and should be great for those small trout-sessions with my Sage #1 rod. I think mastering a pattern involves going up and down in hook size and testing different materials and color choices to see how they will fit together, it also helps breaking the monotony in tying just one color variation!

Red Midge Pupa

dryfly.me.2013.10.16.red_midge_pupae

Hook: TMC 2457 #14
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Brown
Tail: Sparkle Organza
Body: Red Floss, UTC Ultra Wire SM Silver
Thorax: Peacock

Working with floss can be a pain at times; it splits up and doesn’t stay put where you want it. But it really doesn’t matter when it comes to flies like this that you actually go out and fish with: this red midge pupae should be a good addition to any box for when the trout season starts up again

Yellow Rabbit Emerger

Hook: TMC 2457 #14
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Yellow
Body: Hareline Turkey Biot Yellow
Wing: Rabbit Feet Aurivilli
Thorax: Peacock, Fly-Rite Extra Fine Poly #9 Golden Yellow

Got this great rabbit foot dyed in aurivilli yellow the other day and needed to tie some smaller dry-flies again (been on a salt-run lately), this yellow emerger should go great for trout. The sparse wing will make it float just below the surface, great for trout!

Green & Fire Nymph

dryfly.me.2013.09.30.nymph_red_green_highlander

Hook: TMC 2457 #10
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Green
BodyUTC Vinyl Rib NYM Green, Hare’s Ice Dub Rusty Orange
Thorax/Wing: Seals Fur Green Highlander

This one came to be when I found the package of Rusty Orange and the Green Highlander together in my dubbing box. I think the wrapping of the vinyl rib slowly opening up to reveal the rusty orange can work, together with the seals fur for a bit of life in the water.
