Well, this is how it goes when don’t know what you are doing! I normally tie a lot of nice small caddis and dryflies that sit nicely in the top-film. For the autumn fishing I needed some larger attractors and this was the product: I guess it will do its work just fine, but this is not something I am used to tying, the rubber legs keeps going in different directions and the deer hair doesn’t sit as nice as I would like. But: this is made to make a lot of noice in a river so it will do, quite sure it will attract some trout later on.

Red and Yellow Attractor

Tail: Deer Hair Red
Body: Fly-Rite Yellow, Whiting Hackle Brown and White
Wing: Deer Hair Red

This is one of those: let’s make a lot of noise flies that are good to have available, it should trigger a reaction on the surface from any hungry trout. One thing I could have done better is to have a more slender body: there is a lot of dubbing on there now. I could should also have a thread-rib wound counter-hackle to fasten the hackle better.

As you can see in the next two pictures: this will create a very good profile on the surface. The amount of deer hair and hackle will also make this stick to the surface for a very long time.

Sunday Tying

2013.06.dryfly.me.cdc_deer_manySunday morning and it is clouded and a fair bit of wind in Oslo today, too much for any dryfly fishing anyway! So, in preparation for the summers expedition to rivers and lakes a bit further north I’m tying  up some of the CDC & Deer that I posted the other day. These are all tied on a Mustad 94840 #12 with some variation on colors based on the CDC I have available.

Music for todays tying session have been Pjusk: a ambient, nature inspired, band from Norway that is available on Spotify if you want to check them out.

CDC & Deer – vibrant body

Hook: DR 305 #10
Thread: UNI 6/0 Brown
Body:  Single Olive Green CDC feather, wrapped around the hook
Wing: Hareline Premo Deer – Olive

Experimenting on the CDC & Deer pattern – found a CDC feather with long fibres that should give a lot of life on the surface. Have not fished with this one yet, but this should work as a atractor on the surface.
