flyhooks.org – streamers

With the recent big update on flyhooks.org I want to point you towards some of the streamer hooks that I received. I got a lot of these from a person that knows a lot about classic streamers and hooks, so getting a envelope full of hooks from him was like christmas and birthday at the same time!

Daiichi 2370 #2

Gamakatsu Russian River #2

The Russian River is a beast of a hook: the build quality is great and can only be described as one of the toughest streamer hooks I have ever had between my fingers (together with the B-17 below).

Gaelic Supreme M.M.C.S #1

A interesting hook since it exists in 3 sizes: 6xl, 8xl and this 10xl version, this makes it possible to track the difference in XL sizes across what is the same hook.

Mustad B-17 #2/0

Another streamer hook that I would trust for very large fish, but the pure weight of just the hooks, and the dimensions of this hook would make it hard to throw with a conventional flyrod.

Allcock BG3 #2

One from a legendary company, nice lines and a good quality build. Does not have a looped eye though, something I would do on a hook this size and dimension.

Sealey 1762.B #3/0

A interesting hook from Sealey: very lon shank with a wide gape compared to the other hooks in this category

Mustad 94720 #2

A nice Mustad hook that deserves a place here together with the other streamer hooks.

Take a look at flyhooks.org and the search to filter out the streamers or the where the shank length is longer than your traditional hook.

flyhooks.org update – Dohiku, Claw & Knapek

Earlier this year I reached out to some hook companies to see if they were interested in donating some hooks to be included on flyhooks.org, I got A.Jensen covered earlier, but this time I got reply back from Dohiku, Claw & Knapek.

Claw 214

Claw is covered 100%, only 3 sizes is missing from Dohiku and the same status regarding Knapek.

Knapek D

With all sizes for a hook type it is easier to see how the hook compares with others and how it grows/shrink in size as they go up or down in size, this can be of importance if you look to tie up a pattern in different sizes on the same hook.

Dohiku 302

It is easier to cover smaller companies that doesn’t have too many hooks or sizes (and sit on full stocks of all hooks created), compared to companies like Mustad or Partridge that both have a long history, but I hope to cover more of the bigger companies as time go.

flyhooks.org – 300+ new hooks

This autumn I have spent a lot of time getting up to speed on the new hooks that people from all over the world have sent me: 300+ new hooks for http://flyhooks.org/ have been measured, photographed and added to the different hooks that I have registered so far. A big thank you to all those that have contributed to the collection that now counts 682 hook sizes with images (accross 280 different hooks).

Highlights are: Knapek, Dohiku & Claw (almost) complete sets of all hooks and sizes, a large batch of classic streamers, many new Mustad  hooks and some very special dryfly hooks that I’ll get back to in later blogposts.

Even before I was done with this large batch of new hooks I got some new from France that I haven’t seen before and a couple of TMC and Mustad that will be added once I add some more functionality to the site: I’ll improve the search and layout of the site, maybe add a comment section and look at integrating it better with flytyer.org

This project would not have been where it is today without your help, so if you have a hook or two to spare, contact me through the contact form, and I’ll get back to you with address and information about the process.

Flyhooks.org – all hooks updated

Today I finalized the process of re-measuring throat/shank length/eye width on all previously uploaded hooks on flyhooks.org! It has been a long process, but now I have the measurements that I want to have going forward, and I’ll be focusing on adding functionality for a while now.dryfly.me.2016.04.03.silver_grey

Had to tie up a silver grey on Kamasan B280 #4: http://flyhooks.org/kamasan/b280-l-w-salmon-double after this endeavor!

flyhooks.org – A.Jensen

flyhooks.ajensen.streamer.6-grid

I have updated the A.Jensen section of flyhooks.org with a lot of new pictures today (a total of 52 sizes in the A.Jensen collection now), thanks to A.Jensen that sent samples for the remaining hooks that I didn’t have. There are two sizes missing that I’ll get my hands on soon, but you will get a full overview of their catalogue.

I’m working on re-measuring some of the first hooks I added to flyhooks before I’ll add a new batch of 10 new hooks that I got sent the other day. After that I’ll get some better search functionality and revamp the design of the sites, but if you have some hooks that you can spare: please contact me!
