Silver & Squirrel Double

2015.01.05.dryfly.me.silver_rabbit_4Hook: Kamasan B280 #4&#8, Partridge Patriot #8
Thread: UNI 6/0 Red
Tag: UNI-French Medium Oval
Tail: GP
Body: underbody of UNI-Floss, UNI-Mylar #16
Rib: UNI-French Medium Oval
Wing: Squirrel
Hackle: Whiting Dryfly neck, Rooster Saddle Grizzly (depending on size)

A pattern on facebook got me in the direction of this fly, a grey&silver some might call it, but I used what I had to create this double on different hook sizes.

The all-silver body combined with a thin wing and trying to have a sparse hackle will make this sink quickly in the current and give a lot of visual feedback. I’ll tie this one up on singles and on tube as well, but I’ll do that later, for now I’m on a double rush!

2015.01.05.dryfly.me.silver_rabbit_8The head on the smallest one did not come out very good, but it will catch some fish anyway:

Blue Cascade

2015.01.03.dryfly.me.cascade_blueHook: Kamasan B280 #8
Thread: UNI 6/0
Tag: UNI-French Oval Medium
Tail: Blue/Yellow Bucktail, Blue Flash
Body: UNI-Floss Black
Rib: UNI-French Oval Medium
Wing: Fox
Hackle: The Fly.Co Streamer Rooster Neck #1 Yellow, Keough Hen Saddle Blue

A blue version of the cascade salmon pattern that should work fine for seatrout around here as well. This version is very heavily dressed compared to earlier cascade I have done, but this was with purpose to have big movement in the water.

Blue Charm Double

Hook: Kamasan B280 #4
Thread: UNI 6/0 Black
Tag: UNI-French Oval Medium, UNI-Floss Yellow
Tail: GP
Body: UNI-Floss Black
Rib: UNI-French Oval Medium
Wing: Squirrel Tail
Hackle: Keough Hen Saddle

A slightly larger double hook was in the vise today: the Kamasan B280 #4 is a very solid hook that you can trust for big fish! The blue charm came toghether quite nicely today: the wing aligned nicely with the tail and the head was even and smooth.

2014.12.29.dryfly.me.blue_charm_closeAlignment of the wing and tail: not very important for the actual fishing, but I did enjoy getting it aligned like this.

Two Blue Doubles

Hook: Kamasan B280 #6
Thread: Sheer 14/0
Tag: UNI-French, Lagartun French Silk
Tail: GP
Butt: Black Ostrich
Body: UNI-Floss
Rib: UNI-French
Underwing: Black fox
Wing: Mallard Duck, 2 toppings

A quick one this afternoon: Two doubles that started with the blue charm as inspiration and a little bit of google image search where I found the wing and GP layout that I thought would work good together.

Bergman: Babcock #8

2014.0830.dryfly.me.bergman_babcock

Hook: Kamasan B170 #8
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tip: UNI-Mylar Gold/Silver #16
Tail: Goose Shoulder Yellow/Black
Body: UNI-Floss Red
Rib: UNI-Mylar Gold/Silver #16
Wing: Goose Shoulder Yellow/Black
Throat: Whiting Hackle

Another Bergman this morning: I will try to choose some of the patterns where I have material, and this yellow/black one stood out when looking through the collection. The goose shoulders I have is not the best quality, but good enough for creating these small wings. Some minor things that could do with improvement: there is a gap between the tip and the red body and the head is not varnished good enough, but I’ll leave that for the next time.
