Black Ghost Marabou color variations

Thread: UNI 6/0 Black
Tail: Marabou in different color variations
Body: Black Floss, UNI-Mylar #10
Wing: White Marabou
Throat: Marabou in different color variations

I follow streamers365.com on planet.dryfly.me, and the other day a list of black ghost marabou in different color variations came up, so: I had to tie up some variations on this one to see how it is put together. The marabou should give a lot of movement in the water and the silver ribbed body can’t go wrong. Looking forward to test this in a river across a pool late at night.

Red-tag wet

Mixing up the styles a little bit every week is good for practice: today it was a classic wet-fly that I’ll tie up a larger batch of one of these days – might mix up the tag color a bit, but the base pattern here is easy to get started on and works very well for trout and grayling.

A couple of double salmon flies tied up on a sunday morning. The snow is coming down hard: coffee and good music together with fly-tying is a good combination on such days!

Tube with monster cone

Hackle: Wapsi Strung Schlappen black & red
Cone: Eumer Brass monster Cone Medium

Back to this pattern again today to test out the Eumer brass cone. These massive hairwings can deal with quite the large cone, and with the large hackle I put on it doesn’t get out of proportions

Yellow/Blue Double

Thread: UNI 6/0 Black
Tag: Lagartun Varnished Frensh Tinsel Oval X-Strong Medium
Tail: Golden Pheasant topping
Body: UNI Floss Yellow, Lagartun Varnished Frensh Tinsel Oval X-Strong Medium
Wing: Yellow Arctic Fox, Blue Templedog
Throat: Spirit River Spey Hackle
Cheek: JC
Head: Black ostrich
Varnish: Veniard No.1 Clear

Continuing on my double-hook posts today with a blue/yellow that came out ok, the arctic fox and templedog didn’t want to sit together as I wanted them to, but the color combination and the tinsel work is ok. The head was a bit too big – I should have worked with a thiner thread and gotten the arctic fox to sit better to avoid the buildup. But that is just the technical points, the overall feel is good for this one.

The winter has really set in here in southern Norway with -7/8C and more than enough snow, so these days it is all about getting to know new techniques and styles to build up for the season that still seems too far away.
