This is a well known pattern here in scandinavia for seatrout, but I have never tied it up before. I got a new Rooster Saddle from Whiting yesterday and since I’m heading out for some fishing tomorrow it was time to get this pattern a go. Not quite after the original recipe, but close enough to the video from Eivind Berulfsen. The hackle will give this a very vibrant flow in the sea, and together with the red seal fur it will be a killer!

Got some spey hackle from whiting today and had to give it a testrun. This is the first time I have worked with spey hackle, and it takes some getting used to. I really like the spey style flies and will tie up more of these to get used to using the spey hackle in different situations.

Wooly buggers are a must to have in the box – the marabou and body hackle on this pattern gives it a lot of life that should trigger a hungry trout.

Since seatrout fishing has gone very good lately I figured I needed some shrimps, so I got some extra material today to try out a couple of different patterns. There is still much to do on this pattern to get it right, but a good example on what I find interesting to do: exploring new patterns and ways of tying flies

I bought some material to start off tying the classic atlantic salmon fly Jock Scott, but I realized that I didn’t have good enough goose shoulders to create a good wing for this #3/0 hook. So this is a freestyle to start familiarizing myself with more classic salmon tying, but not following any particular pattern. I also mix up different styles here, but this is just for practicing thread control and placements.

Front view: I like the profile it creates with the low wing and the JC sides.
