This was a freestyle with what I had on my table, but I really like how it came out: the fire in the tail will be a very good attractor for the salmon/seatrout and it will have good movements once it gets in the water. Will create some more of this color combination, and maybe with blue/lime tail as well.
Wing/Tag: Arctic Fox, Templedog
Body: Future Fly Signature Dubbing GGB Blue
Hackle: Wapsi strung schlappen grey/black
Got some new grey hackle that I needed to test out together with the black I already had: I think the combination looks good, and together with the yellow tag it will go nice in the water. This is one I will test out for seatrout as well.
Working over and over on a pattern is how I normally learn myself something new, these days it is this red/black tube that is getting worked on.
Bottom view: the red tag is not as tight as I would have wanted it to be tough: I need a different tube adapter

A couple of bright orange tube shrimps today: trying to keep them slim and lightly dressed, will try them out in the sea between christmas and new years to see how they behave. Still on a experiment phase when it comes to tubes: tying up different things to see how material and composition ends up.
Got some really long Templedog patches the other day and with the one above here I finally got it slim enough: one thing I have learned the hard way the last couple of weeks is that I add way too much hair when I start on the underwing, ending up with a fly that is too big. This one also got a nice split yellow/black body as you can see in the picture below (the tinsel isn’t aligned properly though…)
Looking at the tube flies I have created the last weeks I also see that I tend to make massively large flies! So: I will try to create some smaller tubes to learn to control that aspect of tying on a tube as well: big fly is not equal to big fish!
