Wing: Bronze Mallard (not grey as in the original pattern)
Pattern: Ray Bergman “Trout” Plate 1

I got some Mustad S60-3399A (the new edition of 3399) this weekend and I started looking through “Trout” to see which patterns I have material for. The Abbey is the first one, and I have the material for it (except I have bronze mallard compared to the grey mallard that the pattern say), so I got around to making this version based on the original description. There are some issues with the floss, and the head is not very pretty (it bleads over into the wing a bit, this I need to practice more). But: all in all a ok effort for this one, will add a couple of more versions of this for practice before I move on.

A lot of times I test out things to see how they turn out without thinking about a particular imitation. Today was a test to see how the peacock quill body with bug-bond coating looks like. The fly will absolutely work, and will take its way into my barbless box!

The Baetis Comparadun is a great pattern for mayflies that sits deep in the film with a upright wing that leaves a good footprint in the film. With only 3 materials this is a easy fly to tie once you get the upright deer wing to stand correctly (this can take a couple of tries). Vary this with more or less (and different angles on the fan-out of the wing) to make it sit in different positions)

Parachutes with Orange wing

This parachute pattern is favorite of mine and I tie it up in different colors, normally I tie in with a white wingpost but this time I got myself some orange Polypropylene and tied up a small batch to bring with me. Tying up more later today, but I should have enough in my box now (when do you get enough of these??)
