dryfly.me.2013.10.22.ryg_tag_redHook: Daiichi 2546 #6
Thread: UNI 6/0 Black
Tail: Orange Dyed Golden Pheasant Tippets
Tag: UNI-Floss
Butt: Black Ostrich
Body: UNI-Mylar #10 Gold/Silver
Wing: White Foxtail, Peacock
Throat: Orange Dyed Golden Pheasant Tippets

A quick and nice pattern tied primarily for salt, but will work just fine in a river targeting trout and grayling. Testing out different tag colors to see how they turn out.

Orange Once And Away

Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Body: UNI-Floss Hot Orange & Br.Yellow
Thorax: Peacock
Wing & Thorax cover: 2 Jumbo CDC Orange
Antenna:  Peacock

Looking through the flies of Hans Von Klinken on danica.com and found the Once And Away that I have tied up in a orange variant. The pattern said contrasting thread and I had the hot orange and bright yellow on my desk, so from there it came out to this funky color-variation of the once and away. After I tied in the peacock for the thorax there was two strands of peacock that just stood perfectly to the side, so I trimmed them down to the same size as the wing.

Snowshoe Rabbit Emerger

2013.06.dryfly.me.snowshoe_emerger_1Hook: Daiichi 1167 #14
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Yellow
Body: Fly-Rite Extra Fine Poly Golden Yellow
Wing: Hareline Snowshoe Rabbit Feet Olive
Ribb: UTC Ultra Wire Olive

I have had a couple of Rabbit feet around for a while but not actually using them for a pattern. This consists of only two materials: the dubbing and the snowshoe (except for the last one where I added a rib), I left the fly as sparse as I could by choice to see how it will behave in the river I’m heading out to tomorrow.

2013.06.dryfly.me.snowshoe_emerger_2The Fly-Rite dubbing makes it possible to make really slender bodies for flies like this!

Black Stone Nymph

Hook: Daiichi 1260 #12
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tail: Hareline Turkey Biot Black
Body: UTC Vinyl Rib Nymph Clear, black thread underneath
Thorax: Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Chocolate Brown
Wing Case: Hareline Scud Back 1/8″ Black
Wing: Mallard Flank

The clear Vinyl Rib gives a huge amount of variations when it comes to color for this one: just use different thread underneath and it will take on a diffirent shade. The body is a bit uneaven and could have been a bit thicker and the wing case above the foremost thorax part should have been better, but it will fish!

Brown Hatch

Hook: Daiichi 1260 #16
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tail: Mallard Flank White
Body: Taimen Beaver Dubbing Brown, UNI-Mylar #16 wrap
Wing: 2mm foam
Hackle: Whiting Bronze Brown

Was looking at some emerging Ephemerella patterns for this one; it will sit very low in the surface and the mallard flank tail will give it life. The foam wings together with the large hackle will make this sit in the surface for a long time. One of those that will end up filling a row in my box later this summer.
