Side: The Fly Co Ringneck Kingfisher Blue, JC
Wing: Veniard Mallard Duck Bronze Shoulders Medium

With the theme “sky is the limit” I started with the blue as a center piece and decided to got for a spey-style fly composed around blue/white/grey. This is the first spey-style fly I have done and I think the colors and flow of it came out ok. The Wing could be a bit flatter, but I did have some issues tying them in.

Black & Silver Salmon

Hackle: Black hackle
Head: JC, Black Ostrich Herl

Of the ones I have tied on this #1/0 hook I think this is the one I’m the most pleased with: the propotions are better, the overwing sits better in its place and the JC is a very good visual indicator. I need a better hackle to tie in on this and the tube flies that I’m starting to tie so I’m heading out tomorrow to do some pre-christmas present-shopping for myself ;)

Got myself some packages of fox and tempel dog to experiment with streamers and tube flies. No particular pattern I’ve gone after, but rather see how these materials come together

Hairwing Salmon – Yellow Body

Wing: Hair that was in my box, unknown origin, 4 strands of Sparkle Organza
Head: Ostrich
Throat: Golden Pheasant Tippets Orange

When I explore a pattern I normally try out different colors to see how they come together. This one is the same as the Hairwing Salmon that I did yesterday, but with a yellow body.

A hairwing single-hook salmon fly that should work well once the hairwing gets wet, the tail and throat should also be good visual indicators. I have no idea where the hair in the wing comes from: I have some samples in my box that I just don’t know the origin of, but they work well!
