CDC Puff parachute

dryfly.me.2015.12.12.cdc_puff

Hook: TMC 2488 #16
Thread: Semperfli Nano silk 12/0
Tail: Swiss CDC Dark Dun
Body: Beaver underfur dubbing
Wing post: CDC White
Hackle: Whiting Hebert Bronze Saddle

I saw the usage of a CDC puff as tail somewhere, don’t know where, but I have had some puffs that I’ve wanted to put to use for a while. The TMC hook got that good curve and will sit nicely in the surface, even though it is too long until season starts again around here to test that out anytime soon….

Shetland wool nymphs

Got some Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift yarn yesterday, testing out different hooks and combinations to see how they turn out.

I have 4 different colors that I will post more patterns of here later.

All of these have a bit of lead in the body, will tie up some without as well to dead-drift in shallower waters, and some with even more lead to get down quickly.

I have not fished this pattern yet, but early next year this will be on my tippet!

Orange Spey

dryfly.me.2015.11.24.orange

Hook: Daiichi 2052 #1.5
Thread: UNI 6/0 White
Body: 1st half UNI-Floss orange, 2nd half Sealsfur
Rib: UNI Mylar,Veevus M
Hackle: Black Heron, Mallard
Wing: Orange Whiting Rooster
Head: Loon Hard Head Orange

The first spey I have done with the traditional full feather wing. I got a rooster neck from silverfishing the other day and I just had to do a spey fly with it. Great colors here, easy to tie up and should be super effective in the water!
