Buzzers

dryfly.me.2014.01.07.buzzers5A new style that I haven’t explored much before: buzzers. Got a bottle of Bug Bond today and had to open it up and test out how this works. As you can see on these first attempts the layering and application of bug bond to make it even is not very precise, but another few batches of these and they should turn out ok.

Renegade

Hook: Mustad 94840 #18
Thread: Sheer 14/0 White
Tag: UTC Wire silver
Bead: Whiting Brown, peacock herl, Whiting white

Another pattern from “tying small flies” by Ed Engle: Renegade. I chose a silver tag instead of the gold in the original pattern. A interesting pattern that should float nicely in the surface and give a good profile.

52 Weeks: 1 – Begin at the beginning

dryfly.me.2014-01.begin_at_the_beginningFirst week of the 52 week challenge is “Begin at the beginning”,  I immediately went back to my little jar of the first flies that I tied two years ago. I remember tying up the red-tag, struggling with getting the body right, and tying off the thread…. So for this weeks keyword I had to do this little peacock/red-tag.

Here together with the first fly I created:
