Guinea Fowl Skin

20131004_223254Got this green Guinea Fowl Skin for a nice price today, I got it for tying the classic atlantic salmon fly, but what other patterns would you use the feathers for?

Looking at the skin I would use it for tails on dryflies, hackles and thorax on larger patterns in addition to the classic atlantic salmon fly. I was looking for a black one, but the green eyes on this skin will be very good for some ideas I have for this winter.

Married Wings + Golden Pheasant

dryfly.me.2013.10.02.red_salmonAdding more material to the Married Wings & Jungle Cock that I created earlier: this time with Golden Pheasant as tail, topping and side. Also added black ostrich in front of the tail.

Originally I had a 3-color wing, but the additional black just didn’t want to tie in, got to practice more on that. This is also first time I’m tying in a proper topping with golden pheasant, so that came out ok.

This is a part of my continious exploration towards the fully dressed salmon fly

Green & Fire Nymph

BodyUTC Vinyl Rib NYM Green, Hare’s Ice Dub Rusty Orange
Thorax/Wing: Seals Fur Green Highlander

This one came to be when I found the package of Rusty Orange and the Green Highlander together in my dubbing box. I think the wrapping of the vinyl rib slowly opening up to reveal the rusty orange can work, together with the seals fur for a bit of life in the water.

Evil Eye

The danica.com site of Hans Weilenmann provides a lot of inspiration and ideas for new patterns to try out, here is my Evil Eye interpretation with the materials I have available.

I like the jungle cock eyes that should make this a real eye-catcher for the trout, it is also very easy to tie up and should work in different color combinations. This is one to test out in the river when it opens for fishing again.
