Flyfishing, flytying and hooks

flyrods.org – 2500 rods!

The flyrods.org site haven’t had much updates for a while, but I added some rods tonight and crossed a milestone: 2500 rods and models are now registered on the site! The process is manual for now, but I’ll open up for people to contribute to the site later this autumn.

The rod that made it as number 2500 was Temple Fork Outfitters: Lefty Kreh Signature Series II, a #3 weight 7’6″ rod. TFO, with the Lefty Kreh Finesse #0.5 weight, is now the lightest rod on the site with only 34 grams! Still not done with all the TFO rods, and I have some more companies to add, but that will come later.

You can search and compare rods on the search page.

The rod in the picture is Scierra HMX double-hand, the 12’6″ #8/9 model that I got myself earlier this summer.Guideline

Introducing flytyer.org

2014.12.31.dryfly.me.blue_charm_lineup

For a while now I have worked on a site to let flytyers promote themselves and their work. I got the idea this winter when I was tying: I was visiting different forums for inspiration and some people only frequented forums, some were only on facebook and others again on their own blog and nowhere else! To get a overview of where all these sources of inspiration where, and who they are was not easy, so I did a bit of research and found the flytyer.org domain to be available and the idea was born.

If you look at my profile page on flytyer.org you should get the idea of what it is about: a profile showing who I am and where to find me on different social media, and the favorite sites that I frequent and find inspiration from. I let the site live before the summer vacation and there are some people that now have signed up and started creating their profile pages.

The site is now in its base form and the functionality that is needed to create a profile, but I’ll be working to tie it together with flyrods.org and other sites that I have planned for the autumn/winter (I have some other domains that I look forward to developing, keep an eye on this site for updates!). I would love to get feedback on what you would like to see, or if you experience any problems using the site.

I hope the site can keep you inspired by other tiers and to be a place where you can discover other styles and methods of tying!

Intruders

The reports from out west is that there is a lot of water in the rivers, so I thought I’d tie up some intruder-style to bring with me in case I need something bigger than small tubes and doubles. All of these are on 25mm waddington shanks with #4 Partridge hooks

Blue Charm – tube

2015.06.20.dryfly.me.blue_charm

Thread: UNI 6/0 White
Tag: Veevus French tinsel, UNI-Floss yellow
Tail: GP
Body: Black Sealsfur dubbing
Rib: Veevus French tinsel
Wing: Yellow/Red-brown/Black Fox, Angel Hair rainbow
Hackle: Keough Hen Saddle Blue
Sides: JC
Cone: Black

Was inspired from a picture on facebook to do this one. I have a lot of BC on hook and tube from earlier, but a longer variant like this was not there! Tried to tie in the wing as sparsely as possible to get that long flowing feel of it in the water.

Quite times – for a reason

So, it has been quiet here for a while, but it has its reasons: I’ve had a injury that made me not prioritize tying and fishing for a while. Not that I haven’t tied flies, I just haven’t pushed things here on the blog for a while. Everything is getting better now, and salmon & trout season is upon us, so I’ll keep you posted over summer with some pics!

In the meantime, some pics of recent ties:
