So: I took the starting point of the green highlander from the other day and just exchanged the green part with blue materials. I don’t know if something like a blue highlander exists, but this was a experiment to see how the colors comes together with blue instead of green ( will try different colors in the near future )

The fly itself came out quite good but this is a massive piece of fly! I will try to cut it down to half the size and keep the colors and general design because I do think that the blue/red combination will work very well

Green Highlander

dryfly.me.2014.03.07.tube_green_highlanderI haven’t specified much patterns on this blog when it comes to pattern names on tube( this has to do with the fact that I’m learning techniques and trying out new material), but from now I’ll start to do some common patterns. The Green Highlander is one pattern that I’ve looked at for a long time and have wanted to do, and now I finally find myself confident in technique (and I have the material to do it).

I really like the green and yellow play in color and I think this will be a favorite when I hit the river this summer!

Never only tie just one of each:

Green & Orange tube

dryfly.me.2014.03.05.tube_green_orangeGot a really good deal on a large lot of various hair the other day (more about that later), so I had to test out a couple of new colors. The green/orange combination is something that really works, and the green templedog was very nicely done.

I see that there are a lot of tubes beeing published here lately, not very many of them are published after a set pattern, but rather things that I have found inspiration on from facebook or other places.  Many of these are all about techniques for me: trying to get the hackle right, setting the JC correctly on the side or getting that drop-form on the wing to sit just right. This is what I set out with this blog for in the first place: teaching myself lots of techniques and different patterns and styles. So I hope you can indulge me with some freestyles every now and then and see how the technique is progressing.

Orange & Black Tube

kvitre.no.2014.02.27.tube_orange_blackTail: Orange Foxtail, Black Silver Fox
Body: UNI-Floss Hot orange, UNI-Mylar Peacock
Wing: Orange Foxtail, Black Temple Dog
Hackle: Orange & Black Schlappen
Cone: Black FutureFly

One of those quick-and-dirty afternoon tubes to see how it will come together: the basic idea was to just use orange and black together. The hackle and the wing will make great movement in the water, so I will test this out targeting sea-trout as soon as I get the chance.

Tag-Tube

kvitre.no.2014.02.25.tube_redTag: UNI-Floss in different colors
Body: Black Floss, Lagartun Varnished French Tinsel
Wing: Silver Fox

I started out with a single red-tag to try out some new silver fox I got the other day, but I ended up with six different UNI-Floss colors. This is a very simple tube, but the red-tag can be extremely efficient when it comes to trout (and salmon). The wing was made very slim to create a long and slim profile in the water.
