2013.dryfly.me.pheasant_nymph_mallard_flank

Hook: Mustad 94840 #12
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tail: Pheasant Tail, Hare’s Ear Plus Chocolate Brown
Rib: UTC Ultra Wire Small Olive
Wing: Mallard Flank

This is a variant of the Simple Pheasant Tail Nymph from yesterday: only added a bit of Mallard Flank on each side. When it gets wet it will stay next to the body and give a bit more life to it.

Simple Pheasant Tail Nymph

Rib: UTC Ultra Wire Small Olive

A very simple nymph that doesn’t take much material or time to tie up:

  • start with tying in the rib at the end
  • dub the hook until the eye
  • add the pheasant tail forward
  • dub behind the pheasant tail
  • drag the pheasant tail back to the end of the hook
  • wrap the rib forward to the eye
  • tie off

I realized the last time I was in a shallow river that I only had weighted nymphs that went straight to the bottom: tying up this together with some variants on the same theme to not be there again the next time!
