Blue & Gold Spey

dryfly.me.2014.04.13.spey_blueHook: Dai-Riki 899 #1/0
Tag: UTC French Tinsel Oval Gold Medium
Body: UNI-Floss Doc.Blue
Rib: UTC French Tinsel Oval Gold Medium
Hackle: Spirit River Spey Hackle
Throat: Guineafowl
Wing: Veniard Mallard Duck Bronze Shoulder Medium

A rather quick test to work with the Mallard wing and the spey hackle. The Blue/Gold in the body came out really good and I think the spey hackle will give it a good deal of life in the water.

52 weeks: 10 – Sky is the limit

Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tag: UTC French Tinsel
Body: Wapsi Angora Goat Kingfisher Blue
Rib: UTC French Tinsel
Body Hackle: Schlappen White & Grey
Throat: Spirit River Spey Hackle Bright Blue
Side: The Fly Co Ringneck Kingfisher Blue, JC
Wing: Veniard Mallard Duck Bronze Shoulders Medium

With the theme “sky is the limit” I started with the blue as a center piece and decided to got for a spey-style fly composed around blue/white/grey. This is the first spey-style fly I have done and I think the colors and flow of it came out ok. The Wing could be a bit flatter, but I did have some issues tying them in.

52 Weeks: 4 – Hat

dryfly.me.2013-4.hatHook: Partridge Klinkhamer X-treme #14
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Green
Body: Spirit River Fine & Dry dubbing Pale Morning Dun, UTC Ultra wire
Hackle: Whiting bronze
Wing: White&Green Polypropylene

This weeks keyword was “hat”, so I had to do something with a  hackle to represent a hat, so: a tall variant of a klinkhamer! Looking forward to “vegetables” that comes up next week!

dryfly.me.2013-4.hat_underMy photo challenge for this week ended up with this streetart in Oslo:

Tube: Fire Tail

dryfly.me.2014.01.10.tube_fire_tailTail: Foxtail Suburst yellow, Templedog hot orange
Body: UNI Floss, Lagartun french tinsel
Hackle: Spirit River Schlappen Black

This was a freestyle with what I had on my table, but I really like how it came out: the fire in the tail will be a very good attractor for the salmon/seatrout and it will have good movements once it gets in the water. Will create some more of this color combination, and maybe with blue/lime tail as well.

Tube: Orange tag

dryfly.me.2013.12.09.green_orange_tag2Tag: Orange Temple Dog
Body: Uni-floss green, Uni-French, Genetic Cock Saddle Green Highlander
Wing: Temple Dog: Orange, Yellow & Lime, peacock
Hackle: Spirit River Schlappen Black hackle

After experimenting with Sunray shadows all weekend I ended up freestyling this tube with the material I have available. I really like how this turned out: the orange/green/yellow combination should be a real treat in the water , the only thing I would like to see in addition would be a disc/conehead and maybe a Jungle Cock side
