Blue Charm – tube

2015.06.20.dryfly.me.blue_charm

Thread: UNI 6/0 White
Tag: Veevus French tinsel, UNI-Floss yellow
Tail: GP
Body: Black Sealsfur dubbing
Rib: Veevus French tinsel
Wing: Yellow/Red-brown/Black Fox, Angel Hair rainbow
Hackle: Keough Hen Saddle Blue
Sides: JC
Cone: Black

Was inspired from a picture on facebook to do this one. I have a lot of BC on hook and tube from earlier, but a longer variant like this was not there! Tried to tie in the wing as sparsely as possible to get that long flowing feel of it in the water.

Blue Cascade

Tail: Blue/Yellow Bucktail, Blue Flash
Body: UNI-Floss Black
Rib: UNI-French Oval Medium
Wing: Fox
Hackle: The Fly.Co Streamer Rooster Neck #1 Yellow, Keough Hen Saddle Blue

A blue version of the cascade salmon pattern that should work fine for seatrout around here as well. This version is very heavily dressed compared to earlier cascade I have done, but this was with purpose to have big movement in the water.

Rotenon Spey

Hook: Alec Jackson Spey #1.5
Thread: UNI 6/0
Butt: Seals Fur Fluo XX-Mix from Eivind Berulfsen
Tail: GP
Body: UNI-Floss
Rib: UNI-French Oval Medium
Wing: Fox
Hackle: Heron Black, Keough Hen Saddle Blue

A pattern I picked up from granbo-flyfishing.no, and since I’m on a spey roll these days I figured I could give the spey version a try. My change is the red butt: the article about the Rotenon gives floss or silkbraid as butt, but since I don’t have that and I do have a lot of the red UV seals fur, I thought I’d give that a try.

The fly is very lightly dressed and is very light in hand, even though it is on the large #1.5 spey hook. I like this pattern: I’ll dress up some on double and smaller single to keep in my box.

Sunburst Spey

Body: 1/2 Red Seals fur, 1/2 Black Seals fur
Rib: UNI-French Oval Large
Wing: Red/Orange/Yellow fox

Hackle: Schlappen Fire Orange, Whiting Rooster Cape Black

Davie McPhail have a great video of a Sunburst Spey on youtube that (after my sunturn spey) I had to give a go. I got some of the bronze spey hooks from Alec Jackson that fits perfectly to this pattern, the only problem is that I should have had this in #5 & #7 as well since this is a rather large fly to go fishing with!

I deviated a little bit from the original pattern: the front hackle where I only had fiery orange schlappen and a pure black front-hackle, but the overall pattern is the same.

2014.12.28.dryfly.me.sunburst_spey_frontThe vibrant colors in the wing, the hackle and the body will make this really shine up once it is in the water.
