Green & Fire Nymph

dryfly.me.2013.09.30.nymph_red_green_highlander

Hook: TMC 2457 #10
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Green
BodyUTC Vinyl Rib NYM Green, Hare’s Ice Dub Rusty Orange
Thorax/Wing: Seals Fur Green Highlander

This one came to be when I found the package of Rusty Orange and the Green Highlander together in my dubbing box. I think the wrapping of the vinyl rib slowly opening up to reveal the rusty orange can work, together with the seals fur for a bit of life in the water.

Barbless Nymph

2013.08.dryfly.me.nymph_knapek_1Hook: Knapek Midge Pupae #12 Barbless
ThreadSheer 14/0 Black
Body: Hareline Krystal Dub Caddis Green, UTC Vinyl Rib NYM Green
Head: Tungsten 3.0mm

More and more streams have some sort of restriction when it comes to fishing: max size, bag limit and of course: barbless. I’m tying up a row of barbless nymphs for the autumn trout fishing this year to get some experience with them. The color variations here with green/green and white/green really comes out good when they are wet

Variations of nymph in #14

2013.07.dryfly.me.nymph_14_variation_1Hook: TMC 2457 #14
ThreadSheer 14/0 Yellow/Brown
Body: Fly-Rite Extra Fine Poly, Golden Yellow & Rust, Rib: UTC Vinyl Rib MDG
Head: 2.5mm Tungsten Bead

Experimenting with colors and combinations to get some small nymphs that incooperate the vinyl rib pattern that I really like: it makes the body pop-out. The Rust body + Green Vinyl rib below is my favourite amongst these (both with and without the hackle)

CDC Nymph Experiment

2013.06.dryfly.me.cdc_nymphHook: TMC 2457 #10
Thread: UNI 6/0 Orange
Body: UTC Vinyl Rib Clear, ostrich herl
Wing: White CDC, Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Dark Olive

Not quite sure where this came from: I had some ostrich herl and the clear vinyl rib on my desk, and then this just happened. I like the vinyl rib where the orange thread shows through, the ostrich herl together with the rather long CDC feather should also make this a very lively body, who knows: it might even catch a fish!

Black Stone Nymph

2013.dryfly.me.black_stone_nymph
Hook: Daiichi 1260 #12
Thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tail: Hareline Turkey Biot Black
Body: UTC Vinyl Rib Nymph Clear, black thread underneath
Thorax: Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Chocolate Brown
Wing Case: Hareline Scud Back 1/8″ Black
Wing: Mallard Flank

The clear Vinyl Rib gives a huge amount of variations when it comes to color for this one: just use different thread underneath and it will take on a diffirent shade. The body is a bit uneaven and could have been a bit thicker and the wing case above the foremost thorax part should have been better, but it will fish!
